The Names of Butterflies

Swallowing a bottle of aspirin
Leaves a very bad remembered taste
It’ll be years before you can look at pills again
But what do you do about headaches?
Drinking a gallon of Chianti is tough
You’ll feel pretty sick the next day
You can say: “I’ll never touch this stuff.”
But what do you do about spaghetti?
I don’t know the names of butterflies
But she was all of them: genus and species
Delirious flights of unfettered surprise
Alighting to my palm on nearly weightless knees
When she left I swore off butterflies forever
But what do you do about summer?
